
- The entire roster of players present for the game shall bat in rotation.
- Ten players shall be used defensively, four in the outfield. Outfielders shall not be positioned less than 15 feet behind the baseline when the pitching motion is made.
- No runner may lead off a base: base runners shall remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit.
- A runner may steal second or third base only after the pitcher has delivered the ball across home plate.
- A runner may only advance to home plate on an actual earned hit by a batter.
- In the event a coach pitcher is on the mound, no runner may steal any base.
- Pitchers shall not pitch more than two innings in a calendar day.
- Pitchers shall not pitch in more than four innings in a calendar week.
- Once removed from the mound a pitcher may return to the field, but shall not be allowed to pitch again.
- When a batter reaches four balls in the count a coach-pitcher shall pitch. The strike count remains. A batter shall be declared out after failing to hit a fair ball after six pitches are delivered by a coach. Missed swings are counted as strikes, as are foul balls and foul tips. A batter is not out on a foul ball or a foul tip unless it is also the sixth pitch.
- If a batter is hit from a coach pitch, the pitch is counted as one of the three pitches.
- Time-out will be called at the umpire’s discretion. Play will continue until the umpire calls “Time”.
- A maximum of 5 runs is allowed per inning per team in the first hour of the game. The scoring opens up after the bottom of the inning after the first hour with no limit per inning per team.
- The 10 Run Rule (10 runs ahead of the other team), as described in the PONY book, shall be used only at the consent of the losing team.
- No new inning is allowed to start after 90 minutes in the game unless the required 4 innings after not been completed (or the bottom of the 3rd when the home team is ahead).
- Drop Dead time is 2:00 Hours
- Pool players may be used if the player is a registered Shetland division player. Pool players may only be played in the outfield and must bat last in the rotation.
- If a complete game, as described in the PONY book is tied, the game will be considered a tie and each team shall receive ½ point in the standings.
- In order for the game to be counted in the standings, each team will keep its own scorebook and keep score for both teams in your book. The coaches will sign off on each other’s book after the game. The winner should report the results to the Director of Baseball and Pinto Commissioner.
- A player shall not remain on the bench more than one defensive half inning.
- Any pitcher that hits a total of 3 batters within a game regardless of the number of innings will be removed from the mound and another pitcher must be utilized.
- Official PONY League hard balls will be used.
