About Seal Beach Pony

VISION STATEMENT

PONY Baseball and Softball seeks to:
1. Expand its youth baseball and girls softball programs to young people throughout the world.
2. Continue to seek corporate and organizational partnerships to expedite and enhance the work of the corporation.
3. Seek ways to subsidize the cost of tournament travel for participating teams and World Series hosts.
4. Provide additional materials to member leagues to assist them in providing an improved baseball/softball experience for the young people of their community.
5. Provide increased funding for Zone operating expenses.
6. Plan and develop a new headquarters facility.
7. Expand the display of historical materials and equipment at the headquarters.
8. Expand the headquarters display of state-of-the-art equipment available to leagues.
9. Continue to seek ways and means of providing continuing education and training for staff, Field Directors, league officers and managers and coaches to enable PONY to provide an ever more effective program.
10. Cooperate with Major League Baseball, Baseball USA and other groups interested in the continued development and expansion of the game of baseball and softball.
11. Seek partnerships with other organizations that may enable PONY to more effectively carry out or expand its mission.
12. Find ways to recognize and acknowledge the efforts of individuals, groups and organizations whose efforts, at any level, have been an asset to the PONY organization in its work to help young people develop into healthier and happier adults.

CODE OF ETHICS

1. As a non-profit organization dealing with youth, PONY Baseball, Inc. (a.k.a. PONY Baseball and Softball), shall be non-discriminatory in its hiring practices and the general conduct of Corporate business.
2. The Corporation cannot tolerate physical, mental or sexual harassment by staff, Field Directors or Local League officials representing PONY Baseball and Softball.
3. Conflict of interest on the part of any employee, member of the Board of Directors, Field Directors or Local League officials is to be disclosed. Such persons shall avoid voting on an item related to their conflict of interest and shall, if requested by the President, absent themselves from the meeting until discussion and subsequent voting on such subject has been completed.
4. Employees of the Corporation, members of the Board of Directors, Field Directors and Local League officials are expressly forbidden to use their position and authority in PONY to require or unduly pressure leagues to purchase and/or use products, (such as baseballs, trophies, concession supplies), or services (such as umpires, ground care, fund raising), which provide profit to that individual as an individual, or part of a specific group of individuals.

What does PONY stand for?
PONY is an acronym for Protect Our Nation's Youth. The concept for the name originally came from boys at the local YMCA in Washington, Pennsylvania and stood for "Protect Our Neighborhood Youth," but when PONY became an international program in the early 1950's "Neighborhood" was switched to "Nation's."  

What is PONY Baseball and Softball's Mission?
PONY Baseball and Softball is designed to "Protect Our Nation's Youth" by providing experiences in youth baseball and softball that will help young people grow into healthier and happier adults.

Seal Beach Pony Divisions:

DIVISION
DESCRIPTION
T-Ball
Ages 6 and Under
Boys and Girls can play T-ball. Players learn the fundamentals of baseball using softer than usual baseballs and use a tee for hitting. Throughout the season, players can progress to coach pitch. The game is two innings long and all players field and bat. No scores or standings are kept. Players are not required to try out.
6U
AGES 4-6
Girls Beginning Coach Pitch Softball on a smaller diamond (bases are 55 feet apart). The rules are the same as for T-ball. Players play with a 10-inch RIF softball. The focus is on teaching fundamentals of softball and no score is kept. Players are not required to try out.
8U
Ages 7-8
Girls Player Pitch Softball. The pitcher uses a 11-inch RIF softball and pitches from a distance of 35 feet. The bases are 55 feet apart. There are no walks and coach pitches after 4 balls. Scores and Standings are kept. Tryouts are required.
10U
Ages 9-10
Girls Player Pitch Softball*. The pitcher uses a regulation size (12-inch RIF) softball and pitches from a distance of 35 feet. The bases are 60 feet apart. Walks and steeling are allowed. Scores and standings are kept. Tournament teams (traveling) will be selected at the end of the season. Tryouts are required. *Girls must try out to be eligible to pitch more than one inning per week.
13U
Ages 11-13
Girls Fast Pitch Softball*. All fast pitch softball rules apply, including the use of a regulation size (12-inch RIF) softball from a distance of 40 feet. The bases are 60 feet apart. Scores and standings are kept. Tournament teams (traveling) will be selected at the end of the season. Tryouts are required. *Girls must try out to be eligible to pitch more than one inning per week.
Shetland
Ages 5-6
Boys Beginning Coach Pitch Baseball. The focus is on teaching fundamentals. The games are 1 hour long. No standings are kept. No tryouts are required.
Pinto
Ages 7-8
Boys Player Pitch Baseball on a smaller diamond (bases are 50 feet apart). The pitcher pitches from a distance of 38 feet with a regulation size ball. The Coach pitches after 4 balls. Tryouts and drafts are introduced. Tournament teams (traveling) will be selected at the end of the season. Tryouts are required.
Mustang
Ages 9-10
Boys Player Pitch Baseball on a larger diamond (bases are 60 feet apart). The pitcher pitches from a distance of 44 feet.
Games are 1 and 1/2 hours. Leading off and stealing is allowed. Tournament teams (traveling will be selected at the end of
the season. Tryouts are required.
Bronco
Ages 11-12
Boys Player Pitch Baseball on an even larger diamond (bases are 70 feet apart). The pitcher pitches from a distance of 48 feet. Games are 2 hours. All major league rules apply. Tournament teams (traveling will be selected at the end of the season. Tryouts are required.
Play Up or Down? Playing up or down a division is permitted. The League’s decision to grant permission to play up or down a division is based on prior experience, tryout results, abilities, safety considerations, and available positions in the requested division.
